Background and Qualifications

I have a background in nursing and midwifery and 20 years working in the voluntary sector as well as many years in the NHS as psychological therapist. I have specialisms in working with trauma and attachment difficulties in adults. Over the last few years I have worked a lot with young parents and infants using a Parent-Infant psychotherapy approach and offer an attachment based parenting program

In 1988 I gained a First Class Honors Degree in Psychology and Human Sciences and then trained in 1990 in Humanistic Psychotherapy. I studied for a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP recognised Diploma in Humanistic Counselling at the Northern Guild for psychotherapy qualifying in 1994. I then qualified in Integrative psychotherapy IIPA at the MIP Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy; I hold a diploma in Casework Supervision since 2003 ; Other studies include a programme of Mindfulness training at Breathworks Breathworks Mindfulness based CBT at Masters level at Leeds University and Parent-Infant Psychotherapy;Watch,Wait and Wonder Infant Observation ;Children and Adolescent StudiesMIP ;Sexual abuse and Personality Disorders; I am also a 'Certified Circle of Security'Circle of Security facilitator and Level One in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.Sensorimotor Psychotherapy I trained at the EMDR Academy in 2018

Professional membership:

I am Senior accredited member of BACP(British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) The largest professional body in the UK for counselling and psychotherapy. I practise within the ethical framework for BACP and am subject to its complaints procedure.
I am also a member of the EMDR Association UK and the IIPA

Personal Approach:

As well as many years of practice and training, I believe that making sense of my own life experience informs much of my way of being with my clients. My work on myself through personal therapy and daily meditation and yoga enables me to offer a confident, congruent and secure space for my you. I am attentive and compassionate and use my head as well as my heart to navigate through the mystery of another persons inner world. I work from a premise that I do not know your experience but rather invite you to show me and explore at your pace, how you see the world, yourself and others, how you feel in your body, how you protect yourself and sometimes limit yourself. I practice in a way that seeks to accept rather than judge and to be open to feedback and challenge.
